Remko Edelaar studied bassoon at the Royal Conservatory with Johan Steinmann. He followed several masterclasses with S. Azzolini and D. Damiano. He won several prizes at competitions such as the SJMN competition (1993). He also regularly took lessons with Joep Terwey and currently with Gustavo Nunez.
Remko has been a soloist many times with various companies, including the JeugdOrkest Nederland, the Nederlandse Opera and in June 2007 with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
Remko is principal bassoonist of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and member of the Asko ensemble and Wendingen Ensemble. With these ensembles he made several recordings, including the sonata for bassoon solo by Willem Frederik Bon. He has also been a guest at the Orlando Festival regularly.
